ACP Expert Spotlight: Jeff Gray

Jeff Gray joined the ACP team in 2014 and has since supported some of our client’s most challenging digital transformation, IT infrastructure, and recently, artificial intelligence projects with unique expertise and creative solutions. Jeff is passionate about enhancing operational efficiencies and driving growth for clients, which is why we asked him about his background and outlook in this expert spotlight.  

Jeff holds numerous advanced certifications, including Master ASE, Hybrid IT (Server, Storage, and FlexNetwork), Silver Peak (SDWAN SPSP/SPSX), ASE Synergy, Proliant, and MCSE Private Cloud. These certifications underscore his comprehensive knowledge and capability in managing complex IT environments and delivering high-impact digital solutions. His role at ACP CreativIT ensures that clients achieve their digital transformation goals through cutting-edge AI applications and robust IT infrastructures. Here is what Jeff had to say about his work and how AI is changing the game:  

Q: Can you tell us about your professional background leading up to your current role at ACP?  

A: I started my career in IT right after high school as a programmer and technician at Atari until they collapsed in the early 80s. After a detour in restaurant management, I realized my passion for technology and shifted back into the field. I went through a career path in telecommunications, ran a consulting practice, built and ran an ISP, and eventually ended up at ACP over 10 years ago, where I am today. 

Q: Could you explain the journey that led you to pursue expertise in AI? 

A: I’ve been interested in artificial intelligence for decades, dating back to my teenage years when I studied neural networks. However, my official start in AI at ACP began when I audited a class on AI development facilitated by HPE. This class introduced me to the language of AI and foundational techniques. Later, when approached by a client to source GPU servers for a specific AI use case, I recognized an opportunity to leverage AI solutions to offer a more comprehensive and efficient solution. This successful venture catapulted me into supporting their IT department and machine learning engineers in leveraging AI technology effectively. 

Q: How do you see the landscape of AI and IT evolving, and how is ACP positioning itself in this changing landscape? 

A: AI is transforming how business is done across all industries, so organizations of all types need to consider how they keep up. At ACP, we're staying ahead by building a center of excellence focused on both current and upcoming technologies. We aim to be a trusted advisor, offering customized AI solutions to address specific client needs. Partnering with HPE and integrating top-notch AI solutions helps us provide cutting-edge services and consultancy. 

Q: Can you share any success stories where AI played a crucial role for ACP and its clients? 

A: One standout success was deploying AI solutions for a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer, which was recently featured at the HPE Discover conference (a global HPE learning event). This project demonstrated how AI can drive efficiency and innovation, gaining recognition from industry experts. We have ongoing AI projects and collaborations with multiple vendors to bolster ACP's AI capabilities, particularly in high-performance computing and AI integration. 

 Q: Can you share some key takeaways from tech industry events you’ve attended such as Tech Jam and HPE Discover?  

A: HPE’s Tech Jam and Discover events have both been standout learning opportunities for me, where HPE has shared the story and details of their strong focus on AI and their partnership with NVIDIA. 

Q: How do you believe AI can benefit businesses, and what advice would you give to companies considering AI integration?  

A: AI offers businesses the potential for efficiency, productivity gains, and innovation. I recommend that companies first understand their specific operational pain points and goals before embarking on an AI journey. It's crucial to have a clear strategy and consult with a center of excellence to guide your AI implementation process. The opportunities are endless, so assessments and discovery conversations are your key starting points. 

Q: What final thoughts or key messages would you like to share with businesses looking to leverage AI technologies?  

A: Businesses need to recognize the transformative potential of AI and take proactive steps to stay ahead of the curve. By upskilling employees, fostering a consultative approach, and delivering value-driven solutions, ACP is leading in the AI space and helping to drive business growth and innovation.
